London hair transplant patients are praising the work of doctors Victor Hasson and Jerry Wong. More patients from the UK and around the world are choosing Hasson & Wong for hair restoration surgery than ever before. Why? Because, Victor Hasson and Jerry Wong are leaders and innovators in the field with a track record of providing consistently excellent results. No other clinic in the world documents their results with as many photos and high resolution, close-up hair transplant video as Hasson & Wong. Proof is in the results.

Hair Transplant Surgery Step-By-Step

Hasson & Wong perform follicular unit transplantation  where the naturally occuring bundles (follicular units) are removed from the donor area at the back of the head. The donor area is a crescent shaped region that is just below the occipital bone at the at the back of the head and extending somewhat to the sides in an arc shape. The donor area is not affected by dehydrotestosterone, the androgen that is the cause of androgenic alopecia also known as pattern hair loss.

Hair transplant patients are given local anaesthetic prior to donor area removal and at intervals throughout the procedure. The first needle of freezing is a pinch not unlike the pinch of a needle at the dentist. Once the freezing is in, the scalp is numb and the doctor “tops up” the freezing so you are numb during the hair transplant surgery and feel only pressure of the doctor and his assistants working. Patients are comfortable enough to sit and watch movies and admire the view of Vancouver from panorama windows. If anything, a patient will experience boredom, but pain is vastly minimized.

The steps of a typical hair transplant procedure are as follows:

  1. Patient sees doctor prior to surgery and the doctor plans the placement of grafts, sometimes by drawing a hairline (when applicable).
  2. The donor area and recipient area are shaved.
  3. The patient is given local anaesthetic to the donor area.
  4. The doctor removes the donor area, which is given to his team of technicians
  5. The doctor closes the donor area with surgical grade staples, often using the tricophytic closure technique, a method of bevelling the donor area edges which allows hair to grow in the minimal scar that results from surgery. Trichophytic closure technique dramatically reduces the visibility of scarring. Hasson & Wong have amongst the best, barely visible scars in the field, regardless of the surgical technique being employed.
  6. The grafts are slivered out of the donor area in their naturally occuring bundles with the aid of high powered stereoscopic dissecting microscopes.
  7. The doctor makes incisions in the recipient area (the area into which grafts are being transplanted). Incisions are made using custom blades and a Custom Blade Cutter invented by Dr Hasson.  For recipient site creation, Hasson & Wong use the Lateral Slit Technique, invented by Dr Jerry Wong and further refined by Dr Victor Hasson. Lateral Slit Technique helps to ensure a natural hair transplant appearance that closely mimics the way hair grows from the scalp in nature. Lateral Slit Technique is now being employed by top clinics throughout the world.
  8. The hair implants are inserted by a team of highly trained and skilled technicians. Hasson & Wong technicians have gained a reputation as amongst the best hair transplant technicians in the world, helping the doctors achieve their goal of naturalness, and one-pass surgeries, so that there is no need for second surgeries or touch-ups in most cases. Hasson & Wong are reknowned for their natural results and for megasessions. Megasessions at other clinics are surgeries of 2000+ grafts. Hasson & Wong have pushed the megasession envelope, routinely transplanting 3500+ grafts in single surgical sessions. To date, Hasson & Wong have transplanted more hairs in a single surgical session than any other hair transplant clinic in the world.
  9. The area is checked and the patient leaves the clinic with an post-op kit.
  10. The patient returns to the clinic the following morning for a post-surgical check-up.

It takes up t0 one year for the final hair transplant result to be realized. Patients generally experience most growth between 8 and 10 months.
